What if you Failed in IBPS Clerk Exam

Published on Thursday, January 02, 2014
First of all congratulations to all who are provisionally selected from IBPS Clerk exam.

In last two years level of competition have been increased. There was a time when bank exams were conducted almost every month. Every public sector bank, insurance company and financial institution conduct their own exam. So there were lots of chances to get the in at least one of them. Then IBPS arrived, it acted as a boon to deserving candidates because they need not to apply for each and every exam and pay their fee and then there are costs to attend the exam. So in current scenario, due to bad economic conditions and increased number of unemployable youth, bank jobs are acting as a boon. It gave birth to cut throat competition. This year 13 lac candidates appeared for IBPS PO whereas 6.3 lacs candidates appeared for IBPS PO in 2012. There is an increase of 100%, which is huge.

IBPS PO or Clerk exam is not end of life, there are many other exams like LIC, NICL, SSC, SEBI, FCI etc. So if you have been rejected in IBPS Clerk 2013, then get ready for next exams.

How to start from scratch

Many readers were asking this question in IBPStoday, comments and via email that how to prepare from scratch. So here are points you should consider :-

Change your books

Many candidates failed because they were blindly following books from some unknown publishers or some All-in-one books. I am a big hater of this all-in-books. These kind of books use to work 3-4 years back when there was not much competition and cutoffs were very low but now you need books for every subject.

Get full list of IBPS Clerk books here

Further reading new books makes an psychological impact on your mind and you will face some new questions. As per me it is the best investment. Don't join any institute, there nothing that you can't teach yourself. Right now I am in the process of making videos for clerk course. I am bit confused about language, most of the readers prefers Hindi whereas large number of readers are from Southern part of India.

Work on your calculation speed

As all of you know that it is near to impossible to solve 200 questions within 120 minutes. Even if you attempt 100 questions, even then speed matters a lot. You calculation speed will positively impact your accuracy rate.

I highly recommend you to buy M.Tyra (read my review)to learn calculation tricks.

If you are in hurry and want to learn all the tricks quickly then check my Quantitative Aptitude series.

Follow a systematic study plan

First of all, Be systematic. Make a study plan and strictly follow it. Give adequate time to every part of exam. Never leave any chapter, May be there will be a 5 questions set from the chapter you left during preparations.

You can follow my Study plan for Clerk and Specialist officers.

Practice makes a man perfect !

As you practice more, you speed and accuracy will increase. So I recommend you to solve at least 10 practice tests. Go to question papers section to download previous papers for practice.
