IT Officer Scale 1 (exam held in Feb 2014) for vacancies of F.Y-2014-15
Marks - 98/200
Category - SC
Cutoff for SC-97 , OBC-106, General-112. I don't know ST cutoff marks.
Interview Date - 18 March 2014
Venue - PNB Office, Bank Square, Chandigarh
Time - 8:30 AM
Document verification started at 9:30
Took 10-12 minutes for each person.
In spite of valid SC category certificates we all were made to fill a form of undertaking that our certificate is not as per IBPS pattern - as given on their website and we will submit a certificate in that pattern at the time of our joining a bank. Do not worry. It is just a formality. No one was having certificate like they have mentioned on the website. Also that format certificate is not made anywhere. Process of doc verification was smooth.
However, one case arrived where a student had wrongly filled his name in application. Spelling mistake was there for which he got an affidavit made but they were not willing to accept it and didn't let him appear for interview. You may try your luck if you are in such kind of situation. Sometimes they accept too.
There were 24 students in morning shift. 14 SC, 2 ST, 3 General-HI (Hearing Impaired), 5 OBC. The SC students had marks such as 98, 100, 103, 109 etc.. Very less no. of students had IT experience. Some had banking clerk experience. Some had small IT companies experience. One OBC student had earlier worked in Punjab Agriculture Bank as an IT officer for 3-4 months and left it as he said it involved a lot of travelling and work load was too high there.
Students came in afternoon shift too. Don't know how many were called. But I guess it would be the same numbers as ours. A clerk there who was assisting us told that the interview process will go on for 5 days. So you can get an idea as to how many were called. Students from Jammu, HP, Haryana, Punjab all had come. So I am thinking that they have only one centre of interview for North India. Delhi might be another one.
TA was given for our bus fare if you are not working.
I have heard on one of the facebook groups that for the exam conducted in 2012 around 350-400 total vacancies(Gen+SC+OBC+ST+PH) were there for IT Officers Scale 1. Don't know how authentic it is but the commenter had said that it was told to him by his friend who had been selected as an IT-1.
Interview - 6 panelists. 1 female and 5 male. All very much experienced. One was a young person around 35-37 yrs of age.

M6(Young Person)-What is balance sheet?
The interview went on for around 12 mins. For some it was for 7-8 mins and max it was for 14-15 mins. They were getting very late taking interviews. I was 12th in the list of interviewees. Mine came at 12:50 PM. Immediately after the person before me finished his interview I was called in giving me just around 5-10 seconds. And they still had 12 candidates after me + the afternoon shift candidates.
I maintained a smile throughout my interview time to release the tension and be comfortable. That helped me a lot plus the panelists were also smiling while asking questions. They didn't said anything to me regarding that but I hope they had a pleasant experience.
The atmosphere inside the interview room was of strictness and to test a candidate fully. You have qualified for IT-1 but they also wanted to know how can you be a benefit to them in other sectors of banking. As many people leave banks after some time so they wanted to have a thorough understanding of the individual.
There are more chances of promotion if you are a PO. I hope you know that. Also the work of IT-1 in a bank is a routine work. Doesn't involves too much of work as there are no new projects. Just same stuff again and again and rectifying the problems. The banking experience does not help you in private sector. They don't consider that in the same way that teaching is not counted as an experience while looking for a job in private sector as a developer. I am saying this from a Computer Sc. engineering graduate point of view. Please take a informed decision while joining banks.
All the best to all of you.
