IBPS PO Success Story - Kranthi Reddy

Published on Monday, April 07, 2014
Hi all...my name is kranthi kumar reddy and I'm from Andhra Pradesh .I have completed M.C.A in 2008.I have started preparing for bank exams in dec2012. I started late for bank exams at 28 for obvious reasons which I could not reveal here .So as I realized about bank exams late and as I was a little more than 28 I could not apply for clerks. So my only choice and aim was to get selected for P.O before I reach 30. I have applied for SBI PO (April 2013) and started my preparation. I used to prepare QT and REASONING from agarwal books, general awareness and banking from a local news paper's (news paper name:SAKSHI) education portal and English from ARIHANT book.I used to study 12-13 hours a day but with lack of planning. I just used to sit in my room and practice all reasoning and Apti chapter wise but did not give any practice tests till a month before the exam.By the time I realized my mistakes it was too late to rectify them and as a result I have got 105 and didn't get select in SBI written test.

I have decided to prepare more wisely for ibps and decided to write practice test everyday. But when I saw the initial notification I was heart broken as the age limit was only 28.When the new and modified notification is out I thought okay this is my last chance...god has given me one more opportunity because I was not sure whether I would get one more notification or not before I crosses 30 in this august.

Again I used the same material for the exam besides using repedix English book for basic grammar. I have divided the time 12/13 hours in 5 slots for English, apti ,reasoning, banking, general awareness and computers with most of the time allotted to English and GA& banking and I started giving individual practice test for each topic to check where I was going with time limit which I already decided to achieve in each topic.I gave time limits as follows :banking, computer and GA 20minutes for 60q,English 30 minutes for 30q,reasoning and apti 35 min each for 35 questions. I wanted the target to be realistic (like I wanted to complete only 30/35 questions and focused on my strengths in each topic). Neither I prepared the topics which I was not good at nor I attempted them in the exam.like wise I studied for 12/13 hours a day giving more preference for banking and GA cause those sections are easy scoring and less time consuming subsequently you'd get more time for other sections.

My target was to attempt 135 question and to get 120 marks at least out of it. I practiced keeping in mind the above target. But in the exam I could attempt only 112 q as I got struck passages in English . I thought I missed an opportunity and to be honest I lost my hopes as I finished the exam...and when the results came I was ecstatic to see that I got short listed for interview and I got 90 marks in written. And I had a good interview in Hyderabad for about 20 minutes with questions on my background and on banking industry in which I could not answer a couple of questions on banking . I was not sure whether I would clear the interview because of those 2 unanswered questions..but by god's grace I got selected for UNION BANK with 48.2 score in general category...

All I want To say is focus on your strengths so that u can manipulate your weaknesses rather than bothering about weaknesses...and keep realistic targets so that u do not pressure yourself ....ALL THE BEST FOR SBI EXAM...thank you
