Dhyan Chand Awards 2020
  • The award is given by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
  • The award is named on the name of Legendry Hockey Player Major Dhyan Chand.
  • The award was initiated in 2002.
  • The awardee is given Rs. 5,00,000 , a plaque and a scroll of honour.
  • Balbir Singh Senior has been honored with a Dhyan Chand Life Time Achievement Award .
  • The 90 years old man received the trophy of Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award along with a cheque of Rs. 30 Lakh on March 28, 2015.
  • He is also first sports person to receive Padma Shri Award in 1957.
  • Balbir Singh's record of most five goals in an Olympic Final still stands and he also recognize as 16 iconic Olympians.
  • He was the part of team when India won continuously 3 gold medals in London Olympics (1948), Helsinki Olympics (1952) and Melbourne Olympics (1956).
  • He was the captain of the Indian team during the Melbourne Olympics.
