- The main aim of Vidya Lakshmi Portal is to provide easy and effective system to for students regarding educational loans.
- The portal has been maintained and developed through NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited under the guidance of Department of Financial Services in the Finance Ministry, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Indian Banks Association.
- For ease of operation a new website is also launched namely www.vidyalakshmi.co.in
- Portal is especially launched for those Students who are looking for education loans.
- Five banks including SBI, IDBI and Bank of India have integrated their system with the website.
- The Vidya Lakshmi Portal will provide help through single window for students to access any information regarding educational loans as well as government scholarships.
- Goal - No students should miss out on higher education for lack of funds.
- 13 Banks have registered for 22 educational loan schemes on Vidya Lakshmi Portal.
- These banks will help the students by integrating their system with portal for providing loan processing status to students.

- With this portal students can take benefits like - Information about educational loans schemes of banks, Common educational loan application form for students, Facility to apply to multiple banks for educational loans, Linkage to national scholarship portal for information, application for government scholarships, Dashboard facility for students to view status of their loan application, Facility for students to e-mail grievances/queries relating to educational loans to banks, Facility for banks to upload loan processing status, Facility for banks to download student's loan applications.
