Machine Input Output is an important chapter for IBPS exams. Most of the students don't know about the right approach to solve these questions. Today, I am providing the right approach for solving the Machine Input Output questions in the exams. Read shortcut trick for this chapter here.
- Machine Input/Output is scoring chapter in Quant because if once you understand the pattern, your all answers will be correct. As we know, there are many type of patterns in which questions are arranged. We have to understand that patterns and solve our questions.
- If you trying to solve these questions through traditional way that means you are wasting your time. Here are some shortcut tricks which can help you solving the questions quickly and saves your precious time during competitive exams.
Different Types of Questions Used in Questions
1st Type of Questions
- How many steps are required to complete the following arrangement
2nd Type of Question
- When particular step is given in the question and you have to find the last step or any other step (i.e. find the fourth or fifth or third step)
3rd Type of Question
- Output is given and you have to find the Input
(If question is asked that Output is given and find the Input, your answer always should have None of These )
4th Type of Question
- Which one will be the final arrangement?
5th Type of Question
- Which step will be last but one step
("Last but one step" means Second Last Step)
Tricks
- Always remember, First Step is to observe Last Step.
- Last step in the question say much about that particular question. First of all, while solving the question last step should always be in consideration.
Lets understand all these thoroughly through some questions.
Question
Input: but 32 71 glory fair south 65 84
Step I: south but 32 71 glory fair 65 84
Step II: south 84 but 32 71 glory fair 65
Step III: south 84 glory but 32 71 fair 65
Step IV: south 84 glory 71 but 32 fair 65
Step IV: south 84 glory 71 but 32 fair 65
Step V: south 84 glory 71 fair but 32 65
Step VI: south 84 glory 71 fair 65 but 32
Step VI: south 84 glory 71 fair 65 but 32
In the above question it carries six steps that does not means all questions will contain same steps.
- To solve the question we have to understand the logic behind above rearrangements and to understand the logic observes the last step first.
- If we see the output the order is first of all Alphabets comes then numbers, again alphabets and then again numbers and so on.
- Alphabets are in the decreasing order (reverse order) means alphabets are arranged in dictionary manner like Z to A. that is south, glory, fair and but in Output.
- In the Output, Numbers are in decreasing order such as 84, 71, 65 and 32.
- From the output, we can understand each step ahead. In the Output, south comes first that means in the first step they brought forward south and other numerical/alphabetical values remain same
- Now again comes to Output. After the word south, you can see 84. It means in Step II, 84 move. You can easily observes that in Step II, 84 brought forward after south and other values remain same.
- Then in Step III, glory comes forward after 84 and other values remaining same.
- In Step IV, 71 comes forward after glory and other values remaining same.
- In Step V, fair comes forward after 71.
- In Last Step, 65 after fair and other values remaining same.
- As a result of above arrangements, we easily found the pattern of output.
Now we have to answer the questions;
Q1. Input: any hen 49 24 far wide 34 69
Find the output.
Answer:
Q1. Input: any hen 49 24 far wide 34 69
Find the output.
Answer:
Step I: wide any hen 49 24 far 34 69
Step II: wide 69 any hen 49 24 far 34
Step II: wide 69 any hen 49 24 far 34
Step III: wide 69 hen any 49 24 far 34
Step IV: wide 69 hen 49 any 24 far 34
Step V: wide 69 hen 49 far any 24 34
Step VI: wide 69 hen 49 far 34 any 24
Step IV: wide 69 hen 49 any 24 far 34
Step V: wide 69 hen 49 far any 24 34
Step VI: wide 69 hen 49 far 34 any 24
- It will consume much time. You don't have any need to write. Just from the output in question solve accordingly by this you can save your precious time during exam.
Q2. After how many steps you can get output?
Answer: We don't have any need to solve step by step. Simply after observing the output we can give the answer of steps like diagram below
Answer: We don't have any need to solve step by step. Simply after observing the output we can give the answer of steps like diagram below
- Take one common point. Wide brought forward then numerical value 69 and so on as we see the pattern earlier. any and 24 does not show with arrows because they are automatically in their proper place after 34 brought forward.
- Number of Arrows = Number of Steps
Q3. How many more steps are required to complete the arrangement given below:
year 92 ultra 15 23 string house 39
year 92 ultra 15 23 string house 39
Answer:
- year 92 ultra (these are already in arranged manner).
- Now take help of arrows
- Number of arrows are 4 that means 4 steps more required to complete the arrangement according to output.
Q4. What will be Third step if:-
Input: play over 49 37 12 match now 81
Input: play over 49 37 12 match now 81
a) play 81 over 49 37 match now 12
b) play 81 over 49 37 12 now match
c) play 81 over 49 now 37 match 12
d) There will be no such step
Answer:
c) play 81 over 49 now 37 match 12
d) There will be no such step
Answer:
- Put 81 forward and cross its previous position then over and 49 is already in its right positions so no further cancellation. Now brings forward and cross its previous position. 37 is in its right position then Match brings forward and cancel its previous position. No further cancellation because 12 is automatically at the end. Number of crosses on diagram shows the number of steps.
- 3 crosses are on the diagram that means 3 steps are done and answer is Option C.
Q5. What will be the 'definite' input if
Step II: Town 74 pair 15 31 nice job 42
Answer:
- Answer of this question will be Can not be determined because position of 74 can not be determined in step I, it may be after pair, after 15 after 31 and so on. But question is asked about definite input which is impossible. If he ask about possible input then we can take guess but now the case is definite input so answer will be Can Not be Determined.
