India Africa Forum Summit 2015

The third edition of INDIA-AFRICA SUMMIT 2015 was held in New Delhi, INDIA from 26th to 29th October, 2015.

- First Summit was held in New Delhi, India in 2008
- Second Summit was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2011

- Third Summit was held in New Delhi, India in 2015. ( Earlier it was scheduled to be in December  2014 but later postponed)

Key Facts

  • 41 Heads of State and Government from 54 African nations have participated in the summit.
  • The venue of the summit was Indira Gandhi Arena, New Delhi.
  • Motto of the summit - Reinvigorated Partnership - Shared Vision
  • It was the largest international summit since 1983 i.e. after Non Aligned Summit in 1983.
  • The logo of the summit shows the Lion depicting one half African and another half Indian Lion mentioning "Proud, Courageous, Bold and on the Prowl, ready to take on the future and seize every opportunity.                                   

Highlights of the Summit

  • The summit adopted two documents - 'Delhi Declaration' and 'India Africa Framework for Strategic Cooperation'
>  Delhi Declaration includes - 

- Comprehensive agreement between India and Africa on climatic changes.
- Collaboration in stepping up of listed range of sectors like trade, energy and power sector.
- Summit will be held after interval of five years.
- Collaboration in the fields of peace and security between India and Africa to fight against terrorism.

>  India Africa Framework for Strategic Cooperation

- Identifying reforms of the UN Security Council.
- Establishment of Small and Medium Enterprises for employment generation in India and Africa
- Other collaborations and cooperations are in the fields of agriculture, infrastructure, education and skill management.
  • India has announced a concessional credit of $10 billion to Africa in next Five years to strengthen economic cooperation
  • India will offer a grant assistance of $600 million in which $100 million is for India Africa Development Fund and $10 million is for Health Fund
  • A commorative stamp and coin was released at the end of the summit.
  • The summit was ended by closing ceremony organised by Ministry of External Affairs co-occurrence with Delhi International Arts Festival at Nehru Park. Theme - Africa in India.
