New Pattern English questions for SBI PO: Part 3

Direction (1-5): The following questions have five sentences(A-E) as options. You have to find one sentence which does not relate to the central theme made by remaining four sentences.

Question 1

A. Nisar urged the popular social media websites like Facebook to provide information about the blasphemous material.

B. Pakistan has sought help from the FBI, Facebook and other social media platforms to combat blasphemy which is a very sensitive issue in the Muslim-majority country.
C. Police have recently arrested two youngsters in Lahore (Pakistan) supporting blasphemous material in the party.
D. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said his country would lead the global Muslim community in combating the desecration content on social media platforms.
E. He made the remarks while addressing the media on the issue of alleged prevalence of blasphemous material on social media.

Question 2

A. However, till now, ShopClues is the only firm to have responded positively. It will look into the matter and try to close the gaps.
B. Since e-commerce is booming, direct selling companies cannot turn a blind eye to the online retail channel.
C. The Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) has written to leading e-commerce firms, including Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm, seeking action to stop unauthorised sale of products from member companies such as Amway, Oriflame, Avon Beauty Products, Herbalife International, Modicare and Tupperware, on their platforms.
D. IDSA is always in favor of direct sellers and emboldens direct sellers to sell their products online.
E. Such products available online are usually not authorised sales. Most of the contracts with the direct sellers prohibit them to sell the product online.

Question 3

A. From April 1 onward, Reliance Jio customers opting for Jio Prime service will get unlimited data and calls till March 31, 2018, for one time registration fee of Rs. 99 and Rs. 303 per month.
B. To counter threat from Reliance Jio, state-run telecom firm BSNL today launched a new plan that offers 2 GB of 3G data per day and unlimited calling within its network for Rs. 339.
C. The benefits customer will get under the Combo STV (special tariff voucher) of Rs. 339 are unlimited calls in BSNL network and unlimited data with fair use policy of 2 GB per day with validity of 28 days,” BSNL said in a statement.
D. In a recent meeting, BSNL has decided to provide its services at a very nominal price to people living in far-flung areas.
E. BSNL customers under the new scheme will also get 25 minutes of free call to other network every day and after that they will be charged 25 paisa for minute long phone call.

Question 4 

A. Companies must spend more and more in R&D to remain running. By not spending that kind of money in R&D, companies will never remain at the front line.
B. Mentioning that domestic and multinational firms have opened many technology centres in India. But it is nothing compared to the kind of work which is happening in countries such as Korea, Western Europe, US, Japan and now even in China. When somebody else spending so much in the R&D why can’t we leverage.
C. FISITA World Automotive Congress for the first time is being held in India. The theme of the conference is Disruptive Technologies for Affordable and Sustainable Mobility. The step is appreciable to promote research in the sector.
D. Indian firms have to spend more and more in Research and Development (R&D) activities to remain at the front line, said a top official of Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M).
E. Indian companies have made a great progress in auto industry in short period moving from 13/14th place to 5/6 in the world. It is a huge progress by any standard.

Question 5

A. Following this, the existing players such as Airtel and Idea moved the telecom tribunal against TRAI for letting the new operator continue the free promotional offer beyond the stipulated 90 days.
B. TRAI has imposed Rs 3,050 crore penalty on Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea for allegedly denying interconnectivity to newcomer Reliance Jio.
C. The telecom tribunal on Thursday did not stay Reliance Jio’s free promotional offer, but asked regulator TRAI to “re-examine” issues relating to the approval granted to the operator to continue with the freebies.
D. In its interim appeal, Airtel had sought a stay on Trai’s approval to Jio to continue with the free services. It had also sought a direction to the regulator to produce all the records related to its decision.
E. On January 31, TRAI had held that Jio’s free voice calling and data plan were not violation of the regulatory guidelines.

5. B (Option B is against Airtel and Vodafone, while rest of the points are focused on companies protesting Reliance Jio freebies.)
