OBJECTIVE :
To preserve the rich Indian Art and Cultural heritage and to convert it into an objective Cultural Mapping, the Ministry of Culture has launched National Mission on Cultural Mapping and Roadmap, at Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.The mission is launched in the year of commemoration of the birth centenary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, a renowned politician, who hailed from Mathura.
This Mission is a part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ umbrella scheme, which is
led by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
The three main objectives of the mission are:
1. National Cultural Awareness Abhiyan:
A programme called Our Culture Our ldentity would be launched nation-wide and various awareness programmes about cultural heritage would be conducted in all places, across the country.2. Nationwide Artist Talent Hunt/Scouting Programme
This is also called as Sanskriti Pratibha Khoj Abhiyan , in which competitions from Gram Panchayat to national level will be conducted ,to connect the people with this programme.3. National Cultural Workplace
This is a Centralized Web Portal with database of cultural assets and resources including all art forms and artists. The portal will serve as common interaction work place for all artistes, institutions, NGOs and Ministry of Culture.LAUNCHING CEREMONY:
The mission was launched in a mega block level programme, which was organised the whole day. Thousands of artists displayed their talents and a panel of veteran artistes judged them.Immediately after this event in Mathura district, the Ministry of Culture will be organising similar Block level events in other States. The scheme is proposed to cover all the blocks of the Country, comprising a total of 6.40 Lakh villages over the span of next 3 years.FURTHER STEPS:
The Ministry is planning to launch massive cultural awareness campaigns across the country so that no artist is left unnoticed. The Artist/Organisations also may register online at www.culturalmapping.nic.in. The Cultural Mapping of India portal will serve as a consolidated database of information about cultural assets and resources.This scheme aims at Promotion of cultural activities like art, craft, weaving, wood carving, pottery, etc. through cluster-based approach for the generation of economic activities resulting in employment to a large sector of society. The Mission also aims to open a direct channel of communication of artists with the Government and peer to peer communication among artists for their mutual improvement.
