Question 1:
The only Asian country which produced more aluminium than it consumed for all the three years wasa) Bahrain
b) India
c)Japan
c)Japan
d) South Korea
(i) 1995
Question 2:
During which of the years was Asian consumption of aluminium less than its production (assume the total for the major countries as the total for Asia )?(i) 1995
(ii) 1996
(iii) 1997
a) (i) only
a) (i) only
b) II only
c) II and III only
c) II and III only
d) none of these
(i) Bahrain
Question 3:
Which of the following Asian countries was/were self-sufficient (production exceeds consumption ) in Aluminium in 1996?(i) Bahrain
ii) India
(iii) Japan
(a) i only
(a) i only
b) ii only
(c) ii only
(c) ii only
d) I and ii
Question 4:
Between 1995 and 1996 the production of aluminium of the major Asian countries increased by approximately how many percents?a) 30
b) 9
c) 19
c) 19
d) 27
a) India
Question 5:
If the gap between consumption and production was bridged by imports, then, in 1997 which country’s imports as a percentage of its production were highest?a) India
b) Iran
c)Taiwan
c)Taiwan
d) South Korea
If production is greater than consumption, then aluminium is exported. If consumption is greater than production, then, aluminium is imported
Answers :
If production is greater than consumption, then aluminium is exported. If consumption is greater than production, then, aluminium is imported
1)
Obviously the answer is (a) as Bahrain’s consumption of aluminium is not a significant figure. Hence (a)
2)
One way is to add all the production figures and consumption figures country-wise for all the years and find out in which year consumption is less than production. This is time-consuming. The simpler method is to check visually as follows. For 1995, only Bahrain and India show production more than consumption by 40, whereas the consumption of Japan alone is more than production by nearly 700. Hence , 1995 is not th answer. On doing the same thing for 1996 and 1997 we find the answer as (d)
3)
Only Bahrain is self –sufficient (a)
4)
Production in 1995 = 1360
Production in 1996 = 1612
Therefore the increase 1612 -1360 / 1360 * 100 = `19% approximately
Hence (c) is the answer
Production in 1996 = 1612
Therefore the increase 1612 -1360 / 1360 * 100 = `19% approximately
Hence (c) is the answer
5)
Required percentage = (consumption – production / production ) * 100
By visual inspection, this percentage is the highest for South Korea. Hence ( D) is the answer.
By visual inspection, this percentage is the highest for South Korea. Hence ( D) is the answer.
