  • Objectives

    • To keep the Aadhaar data protected and safe.
    • Enhance the cybersecurity system in India
    • Spread awareness of cyber crimes
    • Create safety measures for Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and IT staff in all government departments

    Principles

    The Cyber Surakshit Bharat works on three main principles:
    Awareness- Most of the Indian citizen is not aware of the cybercrime and cybersecurity. So, Cyber Surakshit Bharat will spread awareness about cybercrime in India.
    Education- Educate citizens by providing training to them. Training will be held in next six months in five different cities. Five cities are as follow: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad
    The training will be attended by CISOs and technical officials from central government, state governments and Union territories, Public sector Banks, Public Sector Undertakings and defence forces, defence PSUs and technical arms of navy, air force, and army.
    Enablement- Cybersecurity health toolkits which include telemedicine, remote consultation, and mobile clinics to manage and reduce cyber threats.

    CISOs- Chief Information Security Officers

    What?

    A CISO is an officer who protects the Information Technology (IT) system. CISO protects the system with unusual software and hardware. They also create, implement, and communicate the organization’s digital information security procedure and policies. Usually, CISO s report to the CIO (Chief Information Officer)

    Why?

    As digitization is increasing with time, the cyber threat is also increasing with rapid digitization. As a result, cyber breach which can cause financial damage. So, the government advised to all Ministries, Departments, PSUs, Autonomous Bodies, Attached Offices, and Statutory Bodies to appoint a CISO under their control to protect the information and data.

    Other points:

    • The launch of Cyber Surakshit Bharat is another step towards the “Digital India”.
    • The government main concern is to protect Aadhaar data as over 118 crore people have Aadhaar account linked with Jan Dhan account, through which government transfer subsidies like gas, worth rupees 2.40 lakh crore. So, the government has shown their interest in protecting Aadhaar data.
    • First national workshop for central and state government CISOs was held after inaugural event of Cyber Surakshit Bharat.
    • According to government data, 60 ministries and departments of the government of India; 45 other financial institutions and 230 banks already have CISOs to protect their data and systems.
    • The government also stresses that cyber thieves are over smart who can steal data and information.
