World Giving Index 2021: Highlights

Current Context: The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) released World Giving Index 2021.
World Giving Index 2021
  • As per the index ranking, India is ranked at 14th position in the index among 114 nations. India is termed to be the 14th most charitable nation in the world with a score of 44%.
  • The index is topped by Indonesia.
  • The 2nd and 3rd ranks are marked by Kenya and Nigeria respectively.
  • The rankings of the index are calculated by considering the year 2020 and impacts of lockdowns in almost all countries due to pandemic and how the nations performed in charitable giving in such hard times.
  • The data for the report of the index was collected by Gallup’s World view World Poll by asking 3 questions to the people. The questions were, have they helped any stranger, given any money support, and have they volunteered for a good cause last year.
  • As per the survey for India, 61% of Indian have helped strangers, 36% of Indians granted money to support and 34% of Indians volunteered for a good cause.
  • The poor performing nations in terms of charitable giving are: Belgium (112 ranks), Portugal (113 ranks) and Japan (114 ranks).
