- Their groundbreaking findings paved the way for the rapid development of mRNA vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic, which have proven to be highly effective and safe in preventing severe disease and death.
- The Nobel Prize committee praised their work as “one of the greatest threats to human health in modern times” and “a victory for vaccines and the potential for vaccines to advance health and improve equity”.
- The SSA provides detached workers, i.e., employees working in another country on a temporary basis, and their family members with rights to contributory benefits such as cash allowance for retirement or pension, rent, subsidy or lump sum payments as per local legislation without being subject to any reduction, modification, suspension, suppression or retention.
- The SSA establishes the legal framework regulating insurance period i.e., period of services credited with contributions, contributory benefits and export thereof, in respect of detached workers, including crew members of airlines and ships.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Sankalp Saptaah’
- The programme aims to improve governance at the block level and enhance the quality of life of citizens. It is being implemented in 500 Aspirational Blocks across 329 districts in the country.
- The themes for the first six days include ‘Sampoorna Swasthya’, ‘Suposhit Pariwaar’, ‘Swachhta’, ‘Krishi’, ‘Shiksha’, and ‘Samridhi Diwas’.
- The Prime Minister also launched the Aspirational Blocks Programme Portal and inaugurated the exhibition showcased on the occasion.

IFC Received RBI’s Approval for Acquiring 9.7% stake in Federal Bank
- In July 2023, Federal Bank raised 959 crore from IFC through a preferential issue of shares, which amounted to 4.99% of the bank’s post-issue paid-up capital.
- The RBI’s approval is in response to IFC’s application and is contingent on compliance with several regulatory provisions, such as the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, and the RBI’s guidelines on foreign investment in India.
SBI launched a ‘Mobile Handheld Device’
- The device will provide five core banking services in its initial phase, such as cash withdrawal, cash deposit, fund transfer, balance inquiry and mini statement.
- The bank also plans to expand its offerings by including services such as enrolments under social security schemes, account opening, remittance and card-based services shortly.
- The device is set to revolutionize banking accessibility by bringing kiosk banking directly to customer’s doorstep. The initiative was unveiled by the Chairman of SBI, Shri Dinesh Khara.
